Hadyn used his element in of surpise a little in this. It's not to the effect of his "surpise symphony" But it is there at times. He also used periods of silence for dramatic effect in this. Folk like melodies. He would also move from storm and stress to tranquil and light hearted melodies. Althoug, not so much the tranquil part. But light hearted melodies.

It has the moments of silence, there are parts with the build up to the storm and stress and then lighter music after. I'm not really sure if any of the melodies would be considered folk-like. the majority of the song sounds happy.

I heard several shifts in character. It started with a kind of a folk sound. There were pauses between characters. The middle was a little slower and dramatic. There were also many changes in volume. The jumps to a louder volume definitely brought my drifting attention back to the piece. I really enjoy the light-hearted flutes near the end. They were humorous.

This is a very moody piece of music. It goes from geing very light and soft to cheery then very harsh and dramatic.

Ellen,
thank you for bringing up the point of the sudden shifts catching your attention - that was the point! Great job!

It starts off soft and then gets loud, goes back soft and then gets really loud. It does this through the entire piece. Lots of Surprises!Has lots of pauses too.

I think this piece is very light and brisk at some points and then it lulls down at other parts and there is at least one part that seems a little dark to me.
The overall feel of the piece I think is very ligh-hearted with a little bit of suspense

I think that the title "presto" is very appropriate for this piece. It is consistently present throughout the piece...even with the character shifts. It starts out light and happy...slows down...pauses...has empathic moments. It makes me think of someone chasing another in a humorous way.

This piece has a lot of contrasting melodies, there are abrupt shifts from soft to loud and back, and there is also a few measures of half notes that give a momentary break to the rapid pace of the song.

storm and stress followed by light-hearted melodies seemed to be the centered theme of the piece

Haydn used periods of silence for dramatic effects. Also, I could hear humor in this piece. Makes me feel like I'm running through the forest and encountering different animals and obstacles.

This peice of music is very unique. It contains several different moves in whichthe mood is shifted back and forth from lite, airy, and soft to almost dark, boistrous, loud, and then back again. It is set to completely shock the listener witht them shocking movements within the music.
