1)
i. The melody of this piece is very sticcato. It contains wide range, hitting many high and low pitches. The contour of the piece is is very much like a wave. The harmony is complex, containing a lot of counterpoint. However it is very repetitive. The rythm is quite regular, containing four beats per measure.

ii. I hear a tumpemt, french horn, tuba, trombone.
iii. The main instrument that I hear is a trumpet.

2)
i.The shape of the melody is a wave. It is set at an adagio type tempo. The mood of the chant is very calm and epic. It is a very sensational piece, and difficult to describe the exact mood. But it seems very spiritual. It doesn't make me feel happy or sad, but more inspired.
ii.The chant is more melismatic. It is sung to one syllable most of the time.

The melody is joyful, the harmony is pretty simple and the ryhthm regular. It is played in four/four time. I hear trumpets primarily, as well as the trombone, french horn, and flute.

The second clip:
The chant was very wavy with the melody and somewhat smooth with tempo. The mood is spiritual if I can use that word, or religious. The chant is melismatic.

The first piece sounds very majestic. The notes are bright and staccato. The harmony is pretty simple with some exceptions in the low brass section. The rhythm is a regular 4/4 beat. The instruments include the trumpet with the lead, along with tubas, strings, clarinet, trombones, baritones,

The melody is very repetitive but has a lot of spread out interval jumps. The tempo isn't really very consistent, but it may have been written in a 4/4 or cut time with fermadas at the end of each phrase. The mood is very relaxed. It is melismatic.

First Question:
1. The instruments sound like they are copying one another (like row your boat)so I would use the word polyphony to describe what the music is doing. It is very up beat.
2. I hear horns! Tuba, Trombone, and Trumpet.
3. Trumpet
Second Question:
1. The music is going up and down. It doesn't seem sad, but more up lifting.
2. Melismatic I think

Good everyone, so far! Brad - the reason you don't feel a steady pulse is because meters weren't standardized yet, thus the "wandering" feeling of the melody.

i
Melody
Range - Medium maybe its just because its all horns but it sounds to be like most of the notes are pretty close to each other.
Contour - wave I would say due to the fact it is up and down
The note seems to be close together so I would say on that part Conjunct
Harmony I'm going with repetitive
Rhythm I think is a little bit irregular sounding to me but I really don't have a clue.
ii.
I hear lots of horns, the trumpet, trombone and tuba really stands out but other than that I can't tell. There something in there that sounds really soft and pleasant but I don't know what it is.
iii.
The trumpet is differently the main instrument.

Part 2
The melody is very up and down
The range is very wide while the the contour is totally a wave and the notes has a little of conjucnt and disjunct in them.
The tempo seems very slow to me and drawn out I can't remember what you called that in class
The mood of the music to me is depressing, sounds like something you would play to depress people.
shape of the melody, the tempo, and describe the mood.
ii.
I think it is syllabic but I dunno

This had a trumpet for sure and some other bras instruments that I don't know of. there was many instruments and they all sounded a little different, so I would say it was polyphony.

This sounded like a lot of e's and o's. it had a thin texture to it. I honestly don't know what it was so I'm not even going to guess.

1. The melody is abrupt, or staccato in most places throughout the line. The range is very broad in which the instruments play a broad range of high and low pitches, whether accomplished by one instrument or the orchestra as a whole. The piece is very bright and cheerful, and fairly complex, with the trumpet playing several lines containing triplets and bright notes. This piece also displays a wave like pattern in which the dynamics, and even notes, liken to a wave in the fact that they rise and fall. There are also four beats to a measure and the rhythm is regular, however, the feel of the song can make it seem as if it is irregular with the different dynamics.
I heard a trumpet predominatley, the french horn, barritone, and possibly trombone.

2. This peices is very dynamic. The song ranges from soft to loud throughout the peice, making it feel irregular, but I believe that it has form of regular rythym. Is is a very broad pattern of notes ranging from low to high. Even though it is a chant it is uplifting and almost encouraging in a way. The peice is melismatic.

i. it's an uplifting melody, it seems to be a triumph.

ii. I hear mainly horns, not sure of which ones because i don't have much experience with them.

iii. Trumpet

i. It is very pretty, and would probably take some training to keep such a clean sound.

ii. Melismatic
